National physical fitness programme to be launched: Maken

By IANS,

Rohtak (Haryana) : India’s sports minister Ajay Maken Sunday announced that the central government would soon launch a national level sports programme known as National Physical Fitness Programme (NPFP).

Addressing a function after inaugurating a sports training centre of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) at Meham in Haryana, Maken said the national programme will be on the lines of the sports talent hunt programme, Sports and Physical Aptitude Test (SPAT), launched by Haryana last year.

Maken said the programme has been approved by the Planning Commission in 12th Five Year plan.

He lauded the achievements of players from Haryana at international level, especially at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

“If all other states also follow Haryana’s model in sports, India can easily rank among top five countries in Olympics,” Maken said.
