Kabul : About 700 kg of opium has been seized in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, Xinhua reported Monday.
Based on tip offs, Afghan National Police (ANP) forces launched an operation and seized 700 kg of opium in Khanshin district and detained three suspects, said the provincial police chief.
The offenders intended to ship the opium to the areas near the border with Pakistan, the official said.
The country produces about 90 percent of the world’s opium, the raw element for making heroin.
Notorious for growing poppy and militancy, the Helmand province, 555 km from Kabul, has been regarded as Taliban hotbed in the militancy-hit country.
