Jakarta : An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale jolted Indonesia’s Maluku islands Monday, Xinhua reported.
No tsunami alert was issued or damage to property or casualty reported.
Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey (USGS) also reported an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale jolting Banda Sea at 4.43 p.m. Monday.
The quake had its epicentre at 145 km southeast of Maluku Tengah in Maluku province, at a depth of 10 km under sea bed, according to a Meteorology and Geophysics Agency official.
At 7.00 p.m., an aftershock of 5.1 magnitude with epicentre at 137 km southeast of the provincial capital of Ambon hit the province.
