New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary to submit a report within four weeks over demolition of four houses of Dalits in Allahabad’s Bhita village by members of the upper caste.
The commission issued the notice after taking cognizance of a media report which alleged that the assailants took away the steel, cement and other construction material and injured five Dalits when they tried to oppose them.
The police reportedly did not register the first information report (FIR) when members of the Dalit community approached them.
The NHRC observed that the content of the press report, if true, raised a serious issue of violation of human rights of Dalits.
