Chennai : Gautam Anand, Director, Content Partnerships, Google, APAC Wednesday said the main reason as to why authorities were not able to stop piracy was that the content did not reach everyone who wished to use it.
“Piracy happens because people around the world are not able to access content they wish to consume. Since content does not reach one and all, someone uploads it online on video-sharing websites so that everybody can consume it,” Gautam said.
He was speaking about filmmaking and managing in the digital era on the second day of the Media and Entertainment Business Conclave (MEBC), a Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) initiative.
“To stop piracy, content should be made available legally. If filmmakers can legally make a film available online on the day of its release, then people who can’t watch it in theatres will prefer watching it online,” Anand added.
