Indore: The Indore Chapter of AMU Old Boys’ Association celebrated the 195th Birth Anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the 19th Century Muslim reformer and founder of Aligarh Muslim University.
Winners of Sir Syed Memorial Essay Writing Contest were also declared on the occasion. Punit Thakur bagged the first prize while Roohi Naaz and Faiz Ahmad placed at second and third respectively. Consolation prizes were also presented to Megha Choure and Manal Ahmad.
Chief Guest Former Vice Chancellor of Devi Ahilya University, Prof. A.A.Abbasi said that in spite of all the suffering, Syed Ahmad was highly impressed by the culture and customs of Western society. He added, “We should not take freedom for granted. We have to put in extra effort to build prosper educated nation because we will be answerable to the coming generations.”
First issue of News Bulletin, “The Aligs Expression” was also released.
