Om Singh alias Beer Singh, a resident of Meerut, was arrested from east Delhi’s Anand Vihar interstate bus terminus Oct 19. Two home-made pistols were recovered from him, police said.

He charged around Rs.2,000 for a home-made pistol, police said.

Following his questioning, an illegal firearms factory was unearthed in his village. The unit was active since 1980 and he had been arrested twice earlier, police said.

“Singh has supplied thousands of illegal arms in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab since 1980,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav.

“He learnt the technique of manufacturing firearms from his maternal uncle. Initially, he used to supply illegal arms to criminals in Meerut and Hapur in Uttar Pradesh but later extended his business to Delhi, Haryana and Punjab,” he said.

Since 1980, his illegal factory was busted and he was arrested twice. But he returned to the same profession after leaving jail, he said.
