New Delhi: Automobile major Hyundai Motor Saturday reported an increase of 5.9 percent in its August domestic sales which stood at 28,257 units over 26,677 units for the like period of 2011.
However, the overall sales including exports fell by eight percent at 46,886 units from 51,012 units sold in the like period last year.
“The market continued to be sluggish but Hyundai domestic sales have grown due to increased preference of diesel vehicles and niche consumer-focused promotions,” said Rakesh Srivastava, vice president sales, HMIL.
“The overall market demand is suppressed due to general inflationary trends, high fuel prices and interest rates. Unless any major triggers get activated, market sentiment is not expected to improve very much,” Srivastava added.
While, domestic sales grew the company saw a decline in its exports by 23.4 percent at 18,629 units from 24,335 units shipped out in the corresponding month of last year.
Segment-wise cumulative sales of A2 segment which includes hatchback majors like Eon, Santro, i10, i20 at 40,049 units followed by the A3 sedan segment which includes Accent and Verna at 6,145 units, A4 luxury segment sedan of Elantra at 608 units and sports utility vehicle (SUV) Santa Fe at 65 units
