Islamabad: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Tuesday filed a complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the omission of spinner Saeed Ajmal from the shortlist for ICC Test player of the year award.
Ajmal’s name was included in the initial list for the award but was removed later on, Xinhua reports.
“During the concerned period he (Ajmal) showed outstanding performance. We thought it was not fair and we decided and wrote an appeal to the ICC,” PCB media manager Nadeem Sarwar said.
“We hope that ICC will reconsider the matter and will include him in the list as there are some examples in the past that ICC honoured such complaints,” Sarwar added.
The 34-year-old top class off-spinner has climbed to No. 3 position in the Test bowling rankings and is the highest ranked spinner, pocketing 72 Test wickets during the qualifying period for the award (from Aug 2011 to Aug 2012).
Ajmal was selected in the ICC Test team of the year.
