New Delhi : The city government Wednesday informed the Delhi High Court that it has constitute a 15-member co-ordination committee to find solutions to the problem of waterlogging during rains.

Najmi Waziri, standing counsel for the Delhi government, told a bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Vipin Sanghi: “The co-ordination committee, headed by the chief secretary, comprises heads of civic agencies and would look into the issue of waterlogging.”

The court earlier asked the government to constitute a committee to evolve a mechanism to de-silt drains to prevent waterlogging.

The government presented an urban development department’s letter which read: “In pursuance of the high court order, chief secretary of the Delhi government is pleased to constitute a co-ordination committee as a permanent mechanism to work towards a solution for the redressal of the problem of waterlogging.”

The government was also directed to file before Oct 9 a report comprising details of the outcome of committee’s meeting.

The court order came while hearing a plea filed by an NGO charging the civic agencies of not taken steps to end the problem of waterlogging.
