Aligarh: “Although the word secularism was included in Indian Constitution in 1976, but due to Article 25 and 30 secularism remained in Indian constitution since its adoption and enactment. The Indian judiciary keeping in mind the importance of secularism has declared it as one of the basic structures of Indian constitution which according to Supreme Court can never be changed.” These were the words of Mr. S.M.A. Kazmi, Former Advocate General, U.P, and president United Muslim Organization (UMO) who was speaking as Chief Guest in a symposium organized by Sir Syed Awareness Forum (SAF) here on Sunday.
He further said that Indian Judicial system is functioning well and the judges are performing their duties honestly. Regarding the formation of United Muslim Organization he said that most of the problems of Muslims are due to ignorance and incompetence of professional leaders of the country who due to their vested interest are unable to put the problems of Muslims before the government forcefully. UMO will try to focus on the Muslim problems.
President Sir Syed Awareness Forum, Dr. Shakeel Samdani said that the establishment of the forum was to propagate the teachings of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan to the general masses so that the people are informed about the importance of the 19th century great intellectual and educationist. He said that Sir Syed is more relevant in 21 st century than the 19th century. He urged the Alig Community to spread the Educational Mission of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan not only in India but throughout the globe.
Speaking on the roleof judiciary he said that during the last 60 years Indian judiciary has delivered many important judgments strengthening the secular principles of Indian Constitution. He said that the legal fraternity in India should accept the advice of Chief Justice S.H Kapadia and stick to its main function i.e. imparting justice and not administering the nation. At the same time, Dr Samdani also congratulated AMU Vice chancellor Lt.Gen Zameeruddin Shah for upholding the long cherished traditions and values of AMU taught by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.He further added, that it is a matter of great pride that he has taken keen interest in reviving the old traditions and at the same time putting a special emphasis for maintaining the discipline among the university fraternity. On this occasion he called upon the alig community to support the new vice chancellor in his noble endeavours.
A.D.J Mr. I.P. Singh said that we are witnessing very good judgments delivered by High Courts and Supreme Court. He said that the duty of the judge is to impart justice without fear and favour. Dr Shamim Ahmad, advocate from Agra said that the organizing of Eid Milan by Sir Syed Awareness Forum indicates that the forum is achieving its objectives very efficiently and the presence of large number of students shows that the forum is very popular among the students of Aligarh Muslim University. He said that this type of programs help in bridging the gap between Muslims and Hindus.
Convener of the program, Dr. Jarrar Rizvi said that there is no better political ideology than secularism for our beloved country. We should try our best to strengthen secularism for the betterment of the country. Presiding over the function Mr. Zameerullah Khan, MLA, Koil said that the appointment of Governors, Chief Ministers, Prime Minister and Presidents of religious minorities in Independent India bears testimony that the roots of secularism are becoming stronger day by day in our country. He said that no service is better than the service of mankind.
During the cultural program Ayesha Samdani presented the ‘naat’ which was appreciated by the entire gathering and Sumiayya Samdani presented a story which was enjoyed by the gathering. Secretary of the forum Mansoor Ilahi proposed the vote of thanks. On this occasion Ahsan Hussain, ACJM, Maulana Obaid Iqbal Asim, Secretary, UP Rabita Committee, Anwar Mohsin, Manager, Green Crescent School, Dr. Tajdar Zaidi, Dr. Amir, Dr. Ali Rizvi, Mr. Najam Abbasi, Er. Shamshad, Er. Pervez Ansari, A.P.R.O, AMU Zeeshan Ahmad, Senior Media Person Mr. Pradeep Sexsena, Pradeep Sharma, M.U. Khan, Mohd Junaid, Afzal Abidi, Social Worker Zulfekar Sherwani, Prof Saeed Siddiqi, Ahmad Usmani and many social activists attended the program.
