Guwahati: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Tuesday assured that riot-hit people in the three affected districts of Assam would be rehabilitated early.
Rahul Gandhi arrived at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport near Guwahati at around 9 a.m. and straightaway headed for Kokrajhar in a special helicopter.
He was accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhubneswar Kalita and several other ministers of the Assam cabinet and other parliamentary secretaries.
“We are all Indians and so we all have to stay together and solve our problems together,” Gandhi said while briefly interacting with journalists after visiting a relief camp at Chirang district.
APCC leaders said Gandhi visited two relief camps each in Chirang and Dhubri districts and later visited one relief camp in Kokrajhar district.
“Rahul Gandhi interacted with the camp inmates and took stock of the facilities provided to them including medical aid to pregnant women, lactating mothers and new-born babies,” APCC sources said while adding that Gandhi had also instructed the administration to keep the rehabilitation of the displaced people as their topmost priority.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to leave for New Delhi by a special flight scheduled later Tuesday, a senior APCC leader said.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, AICC chairperson Sonia Gandhi and union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde have already visited the violence-hit districts of Assam.
