Jammu: The Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul (Vedic School), set up to promote the Sanskrit language and Vedic culture, Tuesday got “prestigious” affiliation to Sampuranand Sanskrit University, Varanasi, according to an official of the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
The Gurukul began functioning in 2010. It is fully funded by the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, which manages the pilgrimage to the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine nestled in the Trikuta hills near Jammu.
Naveen K. Choudhary, chief executive officer of the shrine board, said the Gurukul imparts education in the Vedas, ‘Karma Kanda’ (ritual services offered by swamis or Brahmins in exchange for Bhiksha) and ‘Pooja’ rituals.
The selected students undergoing training at this institution are also taught English, mathematics, science, social studies, computer sciences and music.
