Government to allow old players in 2G auction: Milind Deora

New Delhi : The government will allow both old and new telecom operators to participate in the upcoming 2G auction, Minister of State for Communications and IT Milind Deora said Thursday.

“The upcoming auction for 2G will be open to all players including incumbent and new operators whose licences have been cancelled by the Supreme Court order,” Deora said at the second national conference on e-commerce organised here by industry lobby Assocham.

“The government is hopeful that not only Indians but foreign investors will also invest in the sector,” he added.

The auction following the Supreme Court’s order cancelling 122 telecom licences is scheduled to begin Nov 12 and the companies interested in the auction have to submit their applications by Oct 19.
