A government official said Thursday a request had been received from the Jammu and Kashmir police chief and it had been forwarded to the chief of the nation’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-in) for action.

The movie “Innocence of Muslims” incensed a mob in Libya to attack the US consulate there with rockets, killing American ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.

“The Jammu and Kashmir government had earlier written to the home ministry seeking a ban on the film. We have forwarded the letter to the CERT-in director general for further action,” the official said.

Huge protests have also occurred in Cairo and Yemen over the film, which critics say slanders the Prophet.

India Wednesday beefed up security to the US embassy in New Delhi and American consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
