Robbers pose as officials, rob doctor’s kin

New Delhi : Posing as officials of a power company, a group of men Monday robbed a doctor’s family of Rs.2 lakh and jewellery here while his elderly mother, wife and child were held captive, police said.

Leela Kaushik, 62, her daughter-in-law Ritu Kaushik, 42, and her four-year-old grandson were locked up in a room in their house in Shahdara in east Delhi when her son doctor Sumit Kaushik, 44, was away.

According to police, the four unidentified men gained entry into the house on the pretext of checking the electrical meter.

“They had water and immediately after that took out weapons and started threatening the occupants of the home. They tied and gagged the victims with ropes and demanded the keys of the cupboards,” said a senior police official.

According to police, the men robbed around Rs.2 lakh and jewellery worth Rs.1.5 lakh before fleeing from the house.

When the doctor returned home from his clinic in the evening he found his family tied and locked up in a room and immediately called police.
