New Delhi : India and Egypt Tuesday signed an agreement to promote consultation and cooperation in election management.
Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath said an Indian delegation witnessed the presidential election in Egypt in June and it learnt a lot from the experience.
Hatem Bagato, secretary general of the Supreme Presidential Election Committee of Egypt, said his country was looking forward to elections soon following the “people’s revolution”.
“We are seeking cooperation with India to face future challenges,” he told reporters.
According to the memorandum of understanding (MoU), a mechanism for promoting cooperation to exchange, consul and cooperate in elections will be established.
The Election Commission of India will train Egyptian officials besides assisting each other with technical know-how.
