“She had also protested against the diesel price hike and retail FDI. Yesterday she announced she is withdrawing support from the UPA regime. So I would request her not to protest against our strike as we have called the strike on the same issues,” CPI-M leader Surya Kant Mishra said.

The Left has announced a 12-hour general strike in West Bengal Thursday against the hike in diesel price and allowing foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail.

But Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she was opposed to the strike.

“Calling shutdowns do not solve any problems,” she said.

Mishra said Wednesday: “We hope she would not play a pro-active role like on previous occasions to make shutdowns called by the Left a failure. We hope that this time she would not do such thing as she is also protesting against the same issue.”
