Olympic champ Rudisha named Delhi Half Marathon event ambassador

New Delhi : London Olympics 800 metres champion David Rudisha of Kenya was Tuesday named the event ambassador of the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon to be held Sep 30.

Rudisha is the current world record holder in 800m with a time of 1:40.91 minutes which he clocked in London.

The former IAAF World Athlete of the year won the World Championships in Daegu, Korea last year too.

The event will see participation from a total of 31,756 participants. The half marathon received 10,609 entries while the great Delhi run got 19,781 entries, the organisers said in a press statement here.

The senior citizen’s run will have 1,125 participants and the wheelchair event 231.

The half-marathon, which is a IAAF Gold Label Status event, has a total prize purse of US $210,000 with bonuses of $25,000 for a new world record and $10,000 for a new course record.

The half marathon for elite men will start at 6.30 a.m. while the elite women’s race will start at 6.35 a.m.

The Open half marathon will commence at 6.40 a.m., the wheelchair event at 7.30 a.m., the senior citizen’s run at 7.35 a.m. and the great Delhi run at 8.45 a.m.
