Chennai : The DMK Friday urged the the central government, of which it is a key constituent, to save remaining Tamils in Sri Lanka and not fall into the “diabolical net” laid out by Sri Lanka and its president, Mahinda Rajapaksa.
In his letter to the party cadres, a copy of which was released to the media, DMK president M. Karunanidhi said: “The Sri Lankan government is trying to forge friendship with China and Pakistan, which have differences with India. The Sri Lankan government is not ready to appreciate the help rendered by India to it.”
Stating that Rajapaksa had thanked Pakistan and China for helping his country in its war againt the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), and commenting on the permission given to Chinese companies to fish in Sri Lankan waters, Karunanidhi said: “At least now India should wake up and not fall in the diabolical net laid out by Sri Lanka and its president Rajapaksa.”
Karunanidhi said Sri Lanka, by forging a strong relationship with China and Pakistan, was acting in a threatening manner against India.
Karunanidhi urged the Indian government to save the Tamils still in the island nation and secure them their livelihood and democratic rights.
