Aligarh: Mr. Mohd. Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India will inaugurate Professor K. A. Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies on September 24, 2012 at the Aligarh Muslim University. He will also address the students and staff at Kennedy Hall at 3 pm. Mr. Hamid Ansari is an alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University who also served the University as it Vice Chancellor.
AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. General (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah shall preside over the inaugural ceremony of Quranic Studies Centre. Dr. Farhan Nizami, Director, Oxford Islamic Centre will also grace the occasion.
“Prof. K. A. Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies will be a unique centre of 21st century’s Quranic learning and will encourage and provide research and study of Quran from a wide range of scholar perspectives. Besides conventional methods, the Centre will use e-learning and modern ICT facilities,” said Dr. Rahat Abrar, PRO, AMU.
The Centre for Quranic Studies has been named after late Prof. Khaliq Ahmad Nizami (1925-1997) who was associated with AMU for nearly half a century. He was a prolific scholar who wrote over fifty books covering various aspects of Indo-Muslim history.
Prof. Ahtisham A. Nizami, Director of the Centre said that Haji Abdul Aziz Umar, Minister of Education, Brunei laid the foundation stone of the Centre at AMU on July 21, 1999. He said that the building of the Centre, designed by world renowned Islamic architect Prof. Abdul Wahid Al-Wakil, has been completed with a cost of Rs. 2.5 Crores.
