Australian Indian media group bags three awards

Sydney : Indian Link, an Australian Indian media group, has received three of nine NSW Multicultural Media Awards, an event at which Foreign Minister Bob Carr said that journalists “representing those of Indian ancestry are ambassadors for Australia to the Indian community”.

The media company took the top honours in the Editorials/News Reporting, Online Innovation and publisher Pawan Luthra was named Multicultural Journalist of the Year, a communique said.

Carr presented the awards at the NSW Parliament House Sep 14.

The winners were selected from among 132 entries country-wide.

Initiated by Member of Legislative Council MP Shaoquett Moselmane, the awards are the first of their kind in Australia.

Carr said: “I congratulate Indian Link for winning three Awards…Journalists representing those of Indian ancestry are ambassadors for Australia to the Indian community. By sharing cultural ideas through journalism, you are helping to create the overlap of cultures that makes up Australia’s national identity.”

“Three awards in one night can only be a team effort,” Luthra said in his speech.

Pawan and his wife Rajni founded Indian Link in 1994.
