Kochi : Majority of Malayalees prefer to marry within their castes, says a survey.
Seventy-eight percent of the people surveyed said they preferred to have a life partner from their own caste, while 22 percent were open to marrying outside their caste, giving preference to compatibility.
The survey was done by Malayaleeshaadi.com, a part of matrimonial website Shaadi.com.
The survey said more Malayalee women (67 percent) were particular about getting married in the same caste than the Malayalee men (50 percent).
However, 17 percent of the women and 28 percent of the men surveyed said matching castes did not play an important role in choosing life partners.
The remaining respondents (16 percent women and 22 percent men) were unsure about their approach towards caste.
On horoscope, 83 percent of the women preferred matching horoscopes before agreeing to a marriage.
However, 58 percent of the men preferred compatibility over horoscope or caste.
