Srinagar : A legislator from Jammu and Kashmir Thursday staged a sit-in in Srinagar demanding clemency for Parliament terror attack convict Afzal Guru.
Engineer Rashid, who represents the north Kashmir Langate constituency in the 87-member state assembly as an Independent, staged a sit-in along with dozens of his supporters in city centre Lal Chowk Thursday to press for clemency to Afzal Guru.
Addressing his supporters, Engineer Rashid said he voted for Pranab Mukherjee during the presidential poll following an assurance that Afzal Guru’s clemency petition would be sympathetically considered.
“Now that Pranab Mukherjee is in Srinagar, we want to remind him of his assurance,” the legislator said.
He also voiced support for Sarbjeet Singh languishing in a Pakistani jail, but added that those pleading Sarbjeet’s cause must also take up the clemency cause of Afzal Guru.
