Mamata flays imposition of service tax by Railways

By IANS,

Kolkata : Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Thursday termed as “Vinash Kale buddhinash” (Loss of wisdom in times of calamity) the UPA government’s decision to levy service tax on all air-conditioned train fares, freight tariff and food served at railway stations from Oct 1.

“The Railways have enforced service tax today. When such a proposal was made during my tenure as railway minister, I had stalled it,” Banerjee told the state assembly during a discussion.

“Now they have done it because we are not there,” she said referring to her party Trinamool Congress’s withdrawal from the UPA government. “This is what is called vinash kale buddhinash,” she quipped.
