Shimla : Over 85 percent households in Himachal Pradesh are associated with banking service. This fact came to light in an address by Chief Secretary Sudripta Roy at a bankers’ meet here Thursday.
Roy said that out of a total 14.77 lakh households in the state, 13.16 lakh have been availing banking facilities.
“Against the national average of 58.7 percent, 89 percent households in the state are getting banking service,” Roy said.
The chief secretary urged banks to prepare a roadmap for providing banking services in every village with a population up to 2,000 as per guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India.
In the first quarter, the banks have disbursed credit to the tune of Rs.2,213 crore, benefiting 1.31 lakh beneficiaries. This fiscal, the loan target of the banks is Rs.9,348 crore.
At present, there are 1,570 bank branches catering to a population of 6,856,509 in the state. The population accounts for 0.57 percent of the total population of the country which has been put at 1.21 billion as per the 2011 census.
