Massive explosives seized on Karnataka- Kerala border

Bangalore: Huge stocks of explosives were captured from Kuttupuzha check-post in Kiliyanthara at Kannur district in northern Kerala on the border of southern Karnataka. Explosives were destined to transport into Kerala in a pickup jeep coming from Mysore.

The explosives containing 300 kg of ammonium nitrate in six 50-kg bags, 16 bundles of fuse wire and 1,000 powerful detonators in 10 packets enough to blow up whole village were sized at Kuttupuzah check-post by excise and sales tax officials led by Inspector Rejimon in a routine checkup. The explosives were reportedly hidden in vegetable bags in the backside of the jeep.

Two men identified as M.P. Bilu (35) from Kallerikara and T. Ranjith (32) from Elambra near Mattannur town were transporting the explosives into Kerala. The duo and the explosives were handed over to Iritty police station by the excise department for further investigation.
