New Delhi: Seven people belonging to a dreaded gang of snatchers have been arrested here for motorcycle-borne robberies and for possessing illegal arms, police said Saturday.
Sandeep, 24, Sharvan, 36, Pawan, 25 and Parminder, 33 belonged to the Moradabadi gang, whose members are mostly engaged in crimes linked to snatching of bags and valuables.
The police have also apprehended three other accused Dharampal, 38, Ganesh, 33, and Lokesh, 23 of the same gang in a separate case dealing with Arms Act.
The police said that accused were apprehended followed by a complaint filed by Ram Kishan Aug 6, 2012 at Shahdara. The complainant had stated that he along with his wife Vedo Devi was returning to his residence after withdrawing Rs.4 lakh from Central Bank of India, Jyoti Nagar, Delhi.
“The polythene bag containing Rs.4 lakh was being carried by his wife in her hand. Suddenly, two motorcycle-borne youths came, pushed his wife and sped with the bag containing Rs.4 lakh cash, other documents, etc,” the complainant had alleged.
The police apprehended Parvinder Aug 20 and later other accused were arrested.
“Sustained interrogation revealed that they move in a group of 4-5 people and target people who withdraw cash from banks. The team members enter the bank and identify targets who withdraws heavy cash from the counter. They pass on this information to other members of the team waiting outside the bank,” police said.
Police recovered one Pulsar bike, a country made pistol, live cartridge and over Rs.1,50,000 from their possession.
