Rahul Gandhi to address CII meet April 4

By IANS,

New Delhi : Industry honchos as well the common people will get to hear Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s views on economic and growth imperatives for India at an industry body meet April 4, party leaders said Monday.

“Rahul Gandhi would address a special plenary session of the Confederation of Indian Industry on April 4,” a senior Congress leader told IANS.

“It would provide an opportunity to the industry, both in India and abroad, as well as the people of the country to get to know his thought process on economic issues confronting the nation,” he said.

According to Congress sources, though Gandhi had engaged with the industry body earlier, this will be his first address at a CII national conference after becoming vice president of the party Jan 19.

Though the overarching theme of the CII meet is “India of Tomorrow: Imperatives of Growth, Security and Governance” and is divided into issue-specific segments, three speeches – that of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh April 3 and Rahul Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley on April 4 would have a broad canvass.

In October 2012, Gandhi, 42, had taken some top industry honchos to Jammu and Kashmir to address the problem of unemployment being faced by the youth of the troubled state.

Earlier, Gandhi had taken Microsoft chief Bill Gates to his parliamentary constituency Amethi in 2010.

In 2008, he visited Japan along with party leader Sachin Pilot and National Conference chief Omar Abdullah (now Jammu and Kashmir’s chief minister) as part of a CII delegation.
