Mumbai : Two months after Delhi nurse Preeti Rathi succumbed to injuries inflicted on her in an acid attack here, her family Monday moved the Bombay High Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the incident.
The victim’s father, Amar Singh Rathi, filed a petition alleging Mumbai police of inaction in arresting the accused who attacked her at Bandra Terminus May 2.
Preeti’s battle for survival ended June 1 in a Mumbai hospital. She was attacked soon after she reached Mumbai for joining as a nurse in a defence health facility.
Rathi said Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil had assured him of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe but nothing moved in the matter.
“The attack on Preeti was well-planned. Police remain clueless about the identity of the accused nearly three months after the incident,” said Rathi’s lawyer Gautam Pyarelal.
One person was nabbed in connection with the case, but he was later released on bail and the victim’s family has no faith in police probe, the lawyer said, explaining the decision to move the court.
Preeti suffered severe damage to her lungs in the acid attack. After her death, her body was shifted to her home in Narela in Delhi and cremated June 4.
