Yangon: Myanmar is moving forward in a significant number of areas which has brought positive changes to the human rights situation here and it holds the potential to bring further improvements, a UN envoy has said.

Addressing a press conference here Wednesday evening at the conclusion of his 10-day mission to the Southeast Asian nation, UN Human Rights Envoy Tomas Ojea Quintana, also said there were still critical challenges including the historical need of reconciliation with ethnic groups, Xinhua reported.

He, however, added more space was required to be opened up for those groups’ voices to be heard.

Quintana also reaffirmed the willingness to work constructively and cooperatively with Myanmar during the transition to improve the human rights situation of its people.
