Leader of a Shia party shot dead in Pakistan

    Islamabad : Pakistan’s Tehrik-e-Nifaz Fiqa Jafferia (TNFJ) leader Allama Nasir Abbas was shot dead by unidentified armed men Sunday night, media reports said. His body has been shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination.

    The Tehrik-e-Nifaz Fiqa Jafferia is a Shia political party in Pakistan.

    Nasir Abbas was returning to his residence after attending a meeting at 11 p.m. when armed men riding motorcycles intercepted his vehicle near F.C. College underpass and opened fire, the Dawn reported.

    Abbas was seriously injured in the attack and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    Model Town Superintendent of Police (Operations) Tariq Aziz quoted witnesses as saying that Abbas and his student Hafiz Anjum were going to his home near Thokar when assailants on motorcycles intercepted their car and opened fire.

    The student and Allama’s driver escaped unhurt, he added.

    A large number of his followers reached the hospital after Abbas’s murder, expressing their anger. They chanted slogans against the government and damaged the hospital premises.

    Abbas, 42, has left behind six daughters and a son.
