Srinagar : Breaking silence for the first time after a raging controversy burst here on the Kashmir Valley’s first all-girl rock band Pragaash, one of its members said Tuesday the group had decided to quit in deference to a leading cleric’s decree.
“We have decided to quit in deference to the decree of the Grand Mufti, who knows religion more than we do,” Manika Khalid, 16, the vocalist of the band, told media here.
She said their families had supported their decision to form the valley’s only all-girl rock band. “I thank all those people who supported our decision to form the band and encouraged us during the last two years.”
Khalid said the girls who formed Pragaash had not taken the decision under any fear.
“Yes, I am sad to quit the band, but we are not forced to take the decision under any fear,” Noma said.
Meanwhile, police have registered a criminal case against those who issued the threats to the girls on social media.
