Mamata donates money from paintings to party, relief funds

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday donated proceeds from the sale of her paintings to candidates of her party, Trinamool Congress, for assembly by-elections to three seats.

Money from the sale of her paintings has also gone into government relief funds.

The chief minister told newspersons at the state secretariat Writers’ Buildings that she gave Rs.5 lakh each to three party candidates for the Feb 14 by-polls in Naihati, Rezinagar and Englishbazar.

Banerjee announced that she has donated Rs.25 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, while Rs.10 lakh would be deposited into the Governor’s Relief fund.

The Spastics Society would also get a part of the money.

Nearly 250 paintings by the Trinamool Congress supremo were exhibited at the Town Hall Jan 10-18.
