BJP concerned over Maldives, Sushma speaks to NSA

New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday expressed serious concern over the situation in Maldives with senior party leader Sushma Swaraj speaking to National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon on the issue.

“The situation in Maldives is a matter of serious concern,” Swaraj tweeted after former president Mohamed Nasheed took refuge in the Indian High Commission in Male, the capital city of Maldives.

“I have spoken to NSA and and asked him that the government should keep us informed in this regard,” she added.

Nasheed, who was forced to step down as president of Maldives last year, took refuge at the Indian High Commission in Male Tuesday after a court issued an arrest order for his failing to attend a hearing in the illegal detention of a judge.

Nasheed entered the Indian High Commission as the Hulhumal court issued an arrest order for Nasheed to be brought to court after he failed to attend the last scheduled hearing over last year’s detention of the Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed.
