Bhubaneswar : Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) Friday said it was hopeful of getting bauxite for its refinery in Odisha’s Kalahandi district.
Vedanta had to close its one million tonne capacity alumina refinery at Lanjigarh, 450 km from here, Dec 5 due to shortage of bauxite, the raw material for alumina.
“There are a number of small deposits of bauxite in the state. We hope the government will come up with a solution to run the refinery temporarily,” VAL president and chief operating officer Mukesh Kumar said.
Kumar was accompanied by other company officials to meet an inter-ministerial committee set up by the government to formulate a policy for offering raw materials to state-based industries.
“We presented various options that can be explored for immediate supply of bauxite as well as for long term solutions. The committee assured us it support,” Kumar said.
