Chennai : Union minister M.K. Alagiri Friday said that the DMK was not a mutt (stupid person) to appoint a successor to the party chief.
He was answering reporters’ query here on Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi’s statement Thursday that his other son and Alagiri’s younger brother, M.K.Stalin, would carry forward the DMK’s fight for upliftment of the Dalits.
Karunanidhi’s statement was interpreted as the clear hint by him on a succession plan in the party.
Alagiri also pointed out that Karunanidhi himself had earlier said that he would not like to select a person as his successor.
Alagiri had earlier said that he would not accept anybody else as leader other than Karunanidhi and would be ready to contest if there was a poll for party leadership.
