British minister lauds Kerala nurses

Thiruvananthapuram : Visiting British Health Minister Anna Soubry Tuesday applauded the good work done in medical centres of her country by the large number nurses hailing from Kerala.

Speaking to the media here after a meeting Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, she said the standards of care and compassion of the nurses from here is quite well known there.

“Nursing schools in the UK would certainly like to know from nursing schools here on how this has been made possible,” said Soubry.

Earlier, she had called on Chandy to see how best Britain and Kerala could cooperate in aspects of health education besides on study of diabetics.

“What we are looking is for mutually beneficial relation to cooperate and share our knowledge as we both have our own strengths in health,” added Soubry.

She also said that British universities have not closed their doors on students who wish to pursue higher education there.

“We want more and more students to come and study there and I say this because there have been reports that universities in the UK have closed their doors to foreign students,” said Soubry.

Chandy said, that it was nice to see that Britain and Kerala have been able to forge a partnership to improve quality in healthcare.
