Uddhav set take over as Shiv Sena president

By IANS,

Mumbai : On the 87th birth anniversary of the late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray Wednesday, his son Uddhav Thackeray will take over as the new party president, the party said.

Uddhav Thackeray, 52, party’s executive president will be formally elected as the new party chief at a meeting of top office-bearers Jan 23, a senior party official said.

Despite a clamour for giving an important post to Uddhav Thackeray’s son, Aditya, the party said that the prospects are limited as he is already heading Yuva Sena, the party’s youth wing.

Even after Uddhav Thackeray’s taking over as party president, the late Shiva Sena patriarch will continue to be known as ‘pramukh’ (supremo), the party official added.

The Shiv Sena was founded over four decades ago by Bal Thackeray, who passed away Nov 17 at the age of 86.

Uddhav Thackeray was named party’s de facto chief after the demise of Bal Thackeray.
