Panaji : Throwing a sarcastic barb at the Congress-led central government, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said here Wednesday that the Income-Tax department “allowed” BJP leader Nitin Gadkari to wash away proof by delaying raids.
Speaking to reporters, Parrikar also said the Congress party, right from the time of Indira Gandhi, had been harassing opposition leaders by using central finance agencies like the Income-Tax department.
“Why didn’t they raid Gadkari-ji four months ago, when the allegations were levelled against him?” Parrikar said, adding that the very fact that the tax authorities were raiding the BJP leader’s premises in the heat of intra-party elections showed that the move was politically motivated.
“I am accusing the Income Tax authorities to allowing him (Gadkari) to wash all proof,” Parrikar said sarcastically, commenting on the searches at the premises of the outgoing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president.
