Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has slammed Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi for his comment that there is no objection to Assam becoming a predominantly tribal state. AIUDF general secretary and MLA Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Kasimi said such a statement was not expected from the CM.

“It has come to our notice that the CM, during a press conference, stated that there is no objection if Assam becomes a tribal state. We never expected this kind of a statement from him. To deprive more than half of the State’s population of their political and other rights by making Assam a tribal state is something which will not be acceptable to everybody. This would curb the rights of more than 50 per cent people of the state,” said Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Kasimi.

Kasimi said the party wants ULFA cadres to rejoin the mainstream and the state to prosper. “We will analyse the situation and would try to draw the centre’s attention so that no one is deprived of their rights in the state. Assam has already been divided on many reasons. It’s high time that everybody becomes cautious that the situation does not get worst,” he added.

He also said that the party has no objection to support in giving Scheduled Tribe status to five communities but no one should be deprived.
