Guwahati: Books on promising journalist Safar Ahmed and one written by him was released at Guwahati Press Club on Saturday. Journalist Safar Ahmed: Life and Works, a biography and Prem aaru Prithibi (Love and the World), a compilation of poems were released at the presence of several dignitaries, his friends and well wishers. All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU), a students’ body of the Assam took initiative to bring out the book on the life of the journalist who passed away a few months back.
“Safar will be an example for the upcoming journalists. They way he worked his way out with sheer hard work and dedication combined with honesty coming from such a humble background is commanding,” said Hafiz Ahmed, CCSP president after releasing his book.

While for the book of compilation of poetry, credit goes to his long time friend Amrin Jahan who took all the pain to gather all his poems to publish as a book.
“From a young age Safar was involved in literary activities. He continued it till the last day of his life even though he led a busy life of a journalist. His friend Amrin Jahan helped a lot to collect his poems. Now, after going through his literary works I have realized that these all reflect the plight of downtrodden people our society,” said noted litterateur Ismail Hussain.
His friend Amrin said that it was Safar’s dream to get published the literary works. “Today, I’m feeling relieved and happy for being able to get his dream fulfilled. I wish he would have been much happier to see this moment,” she said.
The 32 year old journalist breathed his last on February 19 in 2013 at a private hospital in Guwahati due multi-organ failure after he had suffered from jaundice for more than two weeks.
Safar was born to a very poor family at small village of Nagaon in Barpeta district in 1981. But by dint of his hard labour he stood head and shoulder above the rest and made his own identity.

He had to face lot of hardship during his school and college days before he stepped in the world of journalism. He started his journalism career with Raij Mel, a local newspaper published from Sarthebari in Barpeta district. He was also associated with several other news organizations including Adinor Sanbad, an Assamese daily before moving to Sakalbela, another Bengali daily.
He was also involved with numerous literary activities and his social participation was always active.
