New Delhi : The Congress Friday attacked the BJP after its MP Chandan Mitra demanded that Nobel laureate Amartya Sen’s Bharat Ratna award be taken away for criticising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
“All of us have to collectively condemn such prejudiced thinking… Do they want to give this message to the youth of the country that we will confer Bharat Ratna conditionally?” Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary said here.
“It is a matter of shame that the BJP subscribes to such thinking,” she told the media.
The Bharatiya Janata Party Rajya Sabha member said Sen should be stripped of Bharat Ratna for saying he did not think that Modi should become the prime minister. The BJP distanced itself from Mitra’s statement.
