Gurgaon : The millennium city, on an average, consumes more than 1.25 lakh bottles of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) and country liquor (CL) and nearly 85,000 beer cans daily, an official said here Wednesday, announcing a hike in liquor prices from April 1.
IMFL and country liquor will cost more in Gurgaon in the next fiscal as the government has increased excise duty on per proof litre by 5 and 7 percent, respectively, the official said.
The excise department has fixed 1.34 crore proof litre quota of IMFL for the financial year 2013-14. The quota for country liquor, for the same period, will be 62.4 lakh proof litre, said an excise official.
“The proof litre quota of IMFL and CL for the financial year 2013-14 will be same as it was for 2012-13,” Aruna Singh, deputy excise and taxation commissioner, told IANS.
The department has given licences to 216 bars and pubs in the city.
