Bhopal: Bhopal-based Isai Maha Sangh,(IMS), expressing anguish over the violent attack against Christians in Lahore, Pakistan has written a letter to Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-moon and Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
In the letter IMS has highlighted the plight of Minorities in Pakistan. It is since long years the fundamental elements are using Blasphemy Law against Hindu and Christian minorities. The recent incidents of violent attacks against Christians in Pakistan are one of those many incidents taking place there in Pakistan. IMS requested the Pakistan President, UN Secretary General and Indian Prime Minister to initiate steps to end this draconic law. The Blasphemy Law has become a tool to set scores against the minorities, the letter said.
A Press release of IMS said it is very important to note that many important leaders in Pakistan had to sacrifice their lives for opposing this draconic law. The Isai Maha Sangh held prayer for the suffering minority people in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, IMS Coordinator Fr. Anand Muttungal said: “The violence against minorities has become very common in Pakistan by misusing the Blasphemy Law. The law may have been made with a good intention but in the present context it has become a tool in the hands of fundamentals to punish the minorities.”
IMS General Secretary Jerry Paul said that UN Secretary General and Indian Prime Minister will have to tell Pakistan the importance of Freedom of Religion and Human Rights. “There is gross violation of freedom of Minorities. IMS will continue to support the issues related to Freedom of Religion and Human Rights anywhere in the world”, he added.
It may be pointed out here that on March 9 last reportedly an angry mob of 7,000 and more targeted Christians’ homes in Joseph Colony, Lahore and indulged in arsons over the allegations of blasphemy committed against Muhammad (S), the Prophet of Islam, by a Christian of the colony. Luckily there was no human casualty as the inhabitants of the colony had fled y anticipating attack. ([email protected])
