100 vehicles collide in Germany

Berlin: About 100 vehicles crashed in snowy conditions on a highway in Germany Tuesday, injuring several people, media reports said.

The accident took place around noon on highway No.45 in central Hesse state. Several trucks were involved in the crash, Xinhua reported citing German N-TV channel.

However, the exact number of the injured was not clear.

At the time of accident, there was heavy snowfall.

The highway connects Dortmund in the west with Aschaffenburg in the southwest, and was blocked in both directions as rescuers tried to save those trapped.

There has been heavy snowfall in many parts of Germany in the past few days, creating traffic chaos.

Earlier Tuesday, a school bus collided with a car in Saxony-Anhalt in eastern Germany, killing two men and injuring 30 children.

Frankfurt airport, among the busiest in Europe, was forced to be closed Tuesday due to heavy snow. In Berlin, several trains were delayed or cancelled due to snow and ice.

On Monday evening, four people were injured in a pile-up in North Rhine-Westphalia in western Germany as four cars crashed into each other.
