Kolkata: The West Bengal government said Wednesday that out of the over 70 lakh unemployed people registered in the state’s employment exchange 1,899 got jobs in 2012.
In a written reply in the assembly, Labour Minister Purnendu Bose said out of 1,899 people who got jobs, 102 were Muslims.
The labour minister said the state government had set up an employment bank to provide jobs in view of the irregularities in the state’s employment exchange.
While presenting the budget in the house Monday, Finance Minister Amit Mitra said: “Between April 2012 to January 2013 new employment generated was estimated at 102,4 521.”
The opposition was quick to attack the government on the issue.
“While the government is claiming that employment for over 10 lakh have been generated. The reply given to the assembly is a self-explanatory,” Leader of the Opposition Surya Kanta Mishra said.
