Kolkata: Fifty percent of the mobile phone users in India do not use mobile security solutions, making them vulnerable to cyber-crime, a recent study by leading cyber security firm Symantec has found.
“Forty-four percent of the mobile users received text messages from someone they did not know, requesting that they click on an embedded link or dial an unknown number to retrieve a voicemail,” the report said.
In India, the report from Symantec said, about 70 percent of adults use mobile devices to access internet.
“Today all these malwares, spywares and trojans are hitting each one of us with the perspective of getting monetary benefit,” Ritesh Chopra, country sales manager (India and SAARC) of Symantec Software Solutions, said here Tuesday.
Chopra was in the city for an interaction session, “Protect your child against Cyberbullying”. He talked of the impact of cyberbullying, its symptoms and the need for awareness about it.
Chopra said that incidents of personal information being accessed by making use of spywares were not uncommon, and there was need for greater awareness among the masses.
Symantec, makers of Norton anti-virus software, is set to visit schools in metropolitan cities as well as smaller cities to raise awareness about the issue, as part of a pilot project, this April.
