Be aware of intellectual property rights: Bengal minister

By IANS,

Kolkata: More awareness and technology implementation is needed in West Bengal in the field of intellectual property (IP) rights, a state minister said here Thursday.

“There is a need for greater awareness in case of patents and intellectual property management in the state. Besides technology should be properly implemented too,” said Science, Technology and Biotechnology Minister Rabiranjan Chattopadhyay at the national conference on ‘Intellectual Property Rights : Meeting IP Challenges’ organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

According to Chattopadhyay, the state government will launch projects to ensure progress in this direction.

“We want to encourage research scholars by providing grants to them,” he said.

“The targeted audience should be research scholars and university students,” said D.K. Rahut, deputy controller of patents and designs at the Intellectual Property Office here.
