Kolkata : In a bid to generate awareness on intellectual property (IP) management, West Bengal has set up a cell that will review projects and approve patents, a minister said here Thursday.
“The patent information cell will look after patenting activities which needs more awareness. So far we have examined around 40 projects,” said science and technology minister Rabiranjan Chattopadhyay.
He was addressing a national conference on ‘Intellectual Property Rights: Meeting IP Challenges’ organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
According to the minister, on an average the government receives around 150 projects for approval.
“Sometimes it is more, sometimes less. We hope that through this awareness cell, more projects will come up for evaluation. This will in turn boost more research and development in the state,” said Chattopadhyay.
